Ed Latimer
Mrs. Jennie Clark of this city received a letter on Monday from David Gibson at Aguas Caliente, Mexico, stating that he had found in the trunk of Ed Latimer, who was killed there identifying the remains as these of her brother. The letter stated that Latimer was killed in that city on July 19, while defending an American citizen. The deceased was also a brother of Mr. R. E. Latimer of this city and Dr. Albert Latimer of St. Louis, Mr. R. E. Latimer.

The press dispatches during the past few days contained news that two Americans, – Clarence Way and Ed Latimer were assassinated b the subordinates of Gen. Torres in Aguas Caliente, Old Mexico, recently. No particulars are given except in a dispatch from Consul Kaiser at Mazatlan in which it is stated that Alcalde Terres, a nephew of Gen. Terres, had called a Way’s office drunk; that Way sent him away to get sober. Subordinates returned to arrested Way and Latimer but instead of arresting the Americans, they killed them.

Not long since Ed Latimer and Clarence Way, Americans were brutally murdered in Mexico by Mexican officers. The supreme court of Mexico has decreed that of the three officers connected with the murder one shall be shot and the other two sentenced to ten years and fifteen months imprisonment each. Ed Latimer was a Cannelton boy and was well known in Hawesville where he worked for some time on a local paper as a typo.
