The river is very low, having almost reached the lowest water-mark; but the passages over the bars are improving slightly by the washing action of the water.

J.I. Staib has resigned as superintendent of the Louisville and Evansville mail-line packets.

The steamer Judelle is running between Rockport and Owensboro, and the Belgrade has taken the place of the Judelle between Cannelton and Rockport.  This arrangement will continue till the river rises.

New Albany Ledger: The low stage of the lower Ohio has brought into the trade between this city and Evansville.  Several small steamboats in opposition to the regular Louisville and Evansville packets and these are threats from all these boats of a deep cut in passage and freight rates.  The river is falling steadily, and the sandbars are appearing at all points rendering navigation difficult even to the smallest boats.  Most of the travel and freight along the river hence to Evansville, however, is now carried by the Air-Line Railroad, which runs a line of boats from Rockport to Cannelton.

The Courier-Journal says: The Henderson Packet Company will keep the Fashion running between here and Flint Island until further notice, and the J.R Drouillard, W. H. Cherry, and Sam Jones will make regular trips through Cannelton to Evansville in place of the Judelle.
