Perry County Court House in Cannelton, IN

The Court House on Seventh street between Washington arid Taylor streets was erected in 1896-97. It is constructed of straw colored brick with limestone trimmings. The ceremony of laying the corner stone was held September 10, 1896 in the presence of a large crowd.

The completed building was turned over to the County Commissioners on June 1987.

When the County Commissioners accepted the new Court House building in June 1897, the old court house was turned back to the city of Cannelton and became the city hall, the public library and the city park. This building was razed in 1921 and the Community Building was erected.

Present Officials

Very Efficient

The present county officials are giving Perry County an efficient government. Most of them are serving their second term. Each official is peculiarly fitted for his office and each one is most accommodating, never too busy to do favors or to give advice to those who are unfamiliar with the court house citizens from back in the county are especially welcome.

The county commissioners kindly consented to decorate the Court House when they learned that Governor M. Clifford Townsend would speak from the front steps.
