Adam and Rachael (Rosencranz) Figgins

From 1881 History of Montgomery County, Iowa:
Figgins, A.S., farmer, P.O. Morton Mills; lives on section thirty-three, Douglas Township. Born in Perry County, Indiana, September 14, 1851, living there until 1865, when he moved to Douglas Township, Montgomery County, Iowa. He received his education in the common schools. He now owns forty acres of good land well improved. Was married, May 24, 1874, To Miss Rachel Rosacrants, Native of same place. Married in Perry County, Indiana; have two children, one living; Effie May, born October 31, 1879; Mr. Figgins is at present agent for Sprinkle & Cole, of Red Oak.
Died of apoplexy according to death certificate.
By Janet Sroufe 1982: Adam and Rachael (Rosencranz) Figgins lived in the small town of Morton Mills in Montgomery County, Iowa on the west side of the highway several miles north of the town of Villisca. This man was a farmer by occupation and in later yeas grew vegetables to see to the public.
As of this writing, 1982, the house still stands on the north side of what is left of this country town. No stores or retail businesses are left, only just a few abandoned buildings and a church which is on the SE corner of the intersection of highway and the county road which leads to the Morton Mills Cemetery.
This writer visited this abandoned town with my mother the summer of 1982 and it recalled many memories of my mother—therefore I feel I can picture the home of Adam and Rachel with Adam coming out of that house wearing his everyday attire of overalls.
The 1880 Census indicates that he suffered from heart disease. Must not have been too serious since he lived for almost 50 more years.
