Pate Set Free

Aug 10 1905

Pate Set Free.
Last Monday, Charles Pate was brought here by Sheriff Bannon and lodged in jail. He was charged with the murder of Wm. Thomas at the rock quarry above town on the morning of July 31 1905.
The examining trial was held here Thursday before Squire John Kelly and as there could be no evidence produced against him, he was set free. It seemed that there was no one who knew anything definitely about the matter, although Wm. Thomas met his death at that place at the above stated time and there was trouble between the two parties and it had been stated that Pate kicked Thomas in the stomach which caused his death. Pate had been dodging the officers since that time and was picked up by Sheriff Bannon in Grayson County and brought here Monday.
Mrs. Charles Pate whose examining trial was held here August 4, as an accessory to crime and who was held over till circuit court and had been in jail since her trial, was released under a $150 bond and the family returned to their home Thursday evening.- Hawesville Plaindealer.

Poison Creek Cemetery

I am searching for information on what was known as Poison Creek Cemetery (around Rome, Perry County, Indiana).  I have now found 2 death certificates of Bryant’s listing one as buried at Poison Creek another as Formerly Poison Creek Cemetery.

The closes I have come is the Bryant Cemetery which has the following description;

Bryant Cemetery is located just outside of Derby, Indiana in Perry County.
To get to the cemetery, you take a little gravel road off of Thrifty Road, just past the old metal bridge that goes across Poison Creek.

Would anyone know if this would be same?

Thanks, Riley

School year books

Connie writes

I would like to find Bristow Grades School year books and Perry Central year books from 1950-60’s. Any? Idea where to start? Thx

Answer; Perry Central did not open until 1966, Bristow High school consolidated with Oil Township and then Perry Central when it opened.

One place that I know for a large amount of the Bristow Class pictures are in the Tell City Library Genealogy department.  The Book is called Bristow 125 years.

I plan on adding more class pictures to this website beginning this summer from the collection that I have accumulated.

traveling shows

Richard Gibson has asked a question:

Is there any information regarding the traveling shows that used to visit the southern Indiana communities? I have heard that occasionally a circus would come through this area and maybe other types of shows. Would love to learn more about this?

Hear are some items I have found from News Papers.
