“Old Chapel Cemetery east of Mount Pleasant, Perry county, was the site of a log church built in 1850 (1843 in some records) by Father August Bessonies and dedicated to St. Francis. This church originated as a Catholic mission established in 1837 by Father Julian Benoit, Father Bessonies’ predecessor. A few St. Augustine parish records as well as Rev. Bessonies’ autobiography refer to this church as St. Francis. Later, this mission was relocated to a new church built about 1894 at Galey’s Landing (near present day Buzzard Roost) by Father Brassart and dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. About 1912, Sacred Heart was relocated to Rono (present day Magnet) by Father Hilger.”
